Biography
Born in York County, Pennsylvania, Steve grew up in the countryside near the banks of the Susquehanna River, a winding waterway which years later would turn up again and again in many of his paintings of the Pennsylvania landscape.
He received art training in painting almost exclusively through the Art Association of Harrisburg where he also now serves as an instructor. Steve has studied landscape painting for a number of years with J.D. Wissler of Lancaster County, and paints with an accomplished contingent of plein air painters known as The Seven Lively Artists, a group which originated in South Central Pennsylvania in the 1950’s.
Steve is also an accomplished cartoonist and is a member of the Association of American Editorial Cartoonists. His editorial cartoons are published in the Harrisburg Patriot-News, and have also appeared in the Altoona Mirror, the Allentown Morning Call, and the Philadelphia Daily News.
His editorial work has been selected for the Best Editorial cartoons of the Year anthology in 2001, 2002, 2003, and 2004, published by Pelican Press and he was also profiled in the 2005 Dorkstorm Press publication, Attack of the Political Cartoonists.
Steve’s other cartoon work, single panel gag drawings, have been published by King Features Syndicate under the New Breed logo, and through other venues.
